The 3rd International Conference on Fashion and Sustainable Development was held at Wuhan Textile University from October 27th to 29th. The conference was guided by the Education Department of Hubei Province and jointly hosted by Wuhan Textile University and the China Textile and Apparel Education Society.
The theme of this conference is "Integration and Co-creation With the theme of "Technology and Culture Facilitating Sustainable Development of Fashion", over 300 top scholars, industry leaders and innovative practitioners from more than ten countries including China, Japan, the United Kingdom, Greece, Portugal, Bangladesh and Italy gathered to jointly explore new concepts, technologies and paths for the sustainable development of the fashion industry in the context of the global green revolution and intelligent transformation.
In his speech, Fu Xin, the president of Wuhan Textile University, stated that promoting the green and low-carbon development of the fashion industry is a key path to cultivating new quality productive forces and achieving high-quality development. He introduced the educational achievements of Wuhan Textile University under the guidance of "A Beautiful Textile University", including the consistent ranking of the Textile Science and Engineering discipline among the world's top, the major breakthroughs made by Academician Xu Weilin's team in the field of aerospace textiles, and the platform advantages of the "National Key Laboratory of Textile New Materials and Advanced Processing Technology". It also emphasizes that the sustainable development of fashion relies on the dual drive of technological innovation and cultural inheritance.
Liang Wei, director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of the Education Department of Hubei Province, said that the textile and garment industry is a key pillar industry in Hubei. Wuhan Textile University, as a "Double First-Class" construction university in the province, has achieved remarkable results in talent cultivation and sustainable research. The Education Department of Hubei Province will continue to support the school in deepening the cooperation among industry, academia and research, strengthening discipline construction, and hopes that this conference will serve as an opportunity to build a cross-cultural collaboration platform, gather global wisdom, and jointly explore innovative paths for the sustainable development of fashion, injecting new vitality into industrial and regional development.
Bai Jing, the secretary-general of the China Textile and Apparel Education Society, emphasized that as an important participant and contributor to the global textile and apparel industry, China shoulders an inescapable responsibility and mission in promoting green transformation. The scientific achievements of Wuhan Textile University, from the "Chang 'e" series of flags shining on the lunar surface to the world's first basalt fiber "stone" flag, are the most powerful interpretation of "technology facilitating sustainability". She highly affirmed the solid support provided by the university to the industry through the approval of the construction of a national key laboratory and the establishment of a high-level scientific research system, as well as the "Textile University experience" of the School of Fashion in cultivating talents with a forward-looking vision and a sense of social responsibility based on the "big fashion" concept. She also looked forward to the conference contributing more Chinese wisdom to the global fashion industry.
During the keynote forum session, over ten top scholars and industry pioneers shared cutting-edge insights on core topics such as "material innovation", "Smart wearables", "Digital twins", "sustainable design", and "cross-cultural education".
Xu Weilin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Party Secretary of Wuhan Textile University, pointed out in his speech titled "Fashion and Sustainable Development of Textile and Apparel" that in recent years, guided by the ideology of "technology, fashion, greenness and health", China's textile and apparel industry has been promoting the transformation and upgrading of the fashion industry towards high-end, intelligent and green development with material innovation, advanced processing and green technology as the core. It provides a development path for building a modern fashion industry system empowered by technology and led by design.
